“We do it because we love it!”
Parent volunteers are an integral and essential part of running our club. Unfortunately, none of us are paid to do anything, and the sole reason for many of us to be involved, is simply because we love it. We love the sport, we love being involved with our kids, we love the community spirit, we love the history, we love the success it can bring.
As a parent volunteer, or community volunteer, you know that your assistance has a direct impact on the children that are involved.
Types of volunteers:
1. Club Night assistance – This is an essential part of being a part of Avondale Athletics club. There are many jobs that parents can lend a hand with on club nights. Over the 4 hours we are there on the field, we need helpers with the following:
- Set up of equipment
- Sausage sizzle helpers
- Tape measure assistance
- Recording results on group sheets
- Helping kids line up on track, and at field events
- Retrieving throwing gear (shotput, discus)
- Raking at the long jump
- Pack up of equipment
2. Coaching assistance – We welcome any parents, grandparents, or community members that may be able to provide us with coaching during the season. We are always looking for people to assist us in any junior athletic discipline on a regular basis during the season.
From time-to-time there are courses targeted to parent-coaches. These are run at the club with the assistance of Neil Bartlett from Athletics Auckland. We encourage all of our interested parents from Tiny Tots to Junior to Senior athletes to attend when they’re available. These courses provide a great starting point in learning about the sport, and help you to teach young athletes the current methods, as well as the rules and regulations around each discipline.
